SlugDings One A QuasiDingbat font created by Christopher B. Gill of SlugWorks Productions “SlugDings One” is the first in what is planned to become a series of QuasiDingbat fonts created by myself, Christopher B. Gill. A QuasiDingbat font is a font with which one can type, also containing dingbat characters. The term is of my own coining. “SlugDings One” was originally conceived as a font of my slug characters, which I like to slather across any sheet of paper that comes my way. The slugs are pretty well known in spheres that I associate with; and so I’ve decided to release a series of SlugDings fonts for my own enjoyment and use, and also for the use of my friends, acquaintances, and anyone else who cares to use them. I originally added alphabetical characters so that the font could be used in screensavers that scroll text, to display both a slug and the message that the slug is saying or is associated with. I developed the text characters further and now I think that they’re pretty nice to use for display purposes and so forth. SlugDings One is a shareware font. The version that you’ve got now, SlugDings One LV (Light Version), contains all textual characters except for some obscure punctuation, and also has eight SlugDings. To use SlugDings One LV morally and legally after a week or so, you need to send me two dollars. If you want to get the full version of SlugDings One, which has all punctuation characters and also forty-eight SlugDings, then you’ve got to mail me five dollars and give me your e-mail address so that I can e-mail you the complete version. You can continue to use SlugDings One LV without paying me, but to do so would be to go against the lofty convictions and to deny the regulations of the country that you hold so dear! Yes, it would be sin indeed. As well as all of that, I am a student, and I really do need the money. I hope that you enjoy my font and my slug characters, and if you do I wish you’d PAY ME FOR THEM! Please. By the way, to find the SlugDings, you may very well need to get the incredibly wonderful shareware utility, PopChar, written by Günther Blaschek. It’s a control panel that, when installed, gives you a menu of all of the characters in any given font. I highly recommend it for use whether or not you’re planning on keeping SlugDings One. The font is really actually copyrighted—each character is under copyright. The thing that I would hate the most is if you were to: 1) Modify SlugDings One; 2) Use SlugDings One in a commercial product, or in another shareware product or font or in anything else that you’re distributing in an electronic medium (including, say, Web pages). I also wouldn’t like it if you distributed the full version. And please don’t “rip off” my slugs. At any rate, all of that business aside, I am Christopher B. Gill, or Chris. If you want to contact me to say anything at all, you can do so, as of August ‘96, at e-mail address “gfChris@aol.com”. To register SlugDings One LV or to buy the full version of SlugDings One (the full version’s name is, by the way, simply “SlugDings One”), you can mail two dollars for the Light Version or five dollars for the full version (please send dollar bills, not checks or sacks of pennies) to my address, which is: SlugWorks Productions 37 Benjamin Rush Lane Princeton, NJ 08540-7340 Remember to give me your e-mail address if you’re buying the full version! If you’re registering the Light Version, then I’d like to have your e-mail address too. If I change my e-mail address, then I’ll notify all who I can e-mail. Just so that you’re aware of it, I have released SlugDings One for Windows as well as for Macintosh, although I am an extremely avid Macker and loathe the Windows OS. I’m telling you this just so you know. Keep looking for more SlugWorks Productions fonts and other things. I should be releasing SlugDings Two sometime in the next year or so. If the wait gets to be too long for you, send me a note urging me on to completion. And at any rate, thanks for looking at my font, and especially for reading all of this garbage. Salutations!
